Because unlike Mac, Dennis wasn’t gay. Obviously. Sure, there’d been that guy— ok, guys— in college…but who didn’t experiment in college? You don’t get called a chef just for boiling a couple of hotdogs, right?
And yes, fine, over the years he’s taken a few other rides up and down the Kinsey scale. But that’s just because he’s a worldly man, a man with taste! Why should he restrict his sexual odyssey to a couple of islands, just because society was obsessed with labels? He can’t help that both men and women are naturally drawn to him. What is he supposed to do? Not fuck them? Again, ridiculous. None of those people meant anything to him anyway.

After the apartment is destroyed, Dennis convinces himself Mac's going to leave him, and the idea of Mac out there with another
manroommate is unbearable to him.The solution? Seduce Mac out of the closet and into his bed, thereby consolidating Dennis as the leading man in every aspect of Mac’s life.
