"It’s always easier to leave than to stay.
That’s what I’m thinking as I hold him in my arms a last time. I couldn’t resist and pulled him into an embrace as soon as I heard the first noises of the incoming train. Yes, it is easier to leave. All I’ll have to do will be three steps on the station platform, get that big body of mine into the compartment, and let go. The train will move in my place. I will be away in spite of myself if needed. The landscape gliding past, the regular sounds of the wheels, and the soft rocking of the railway will soothe the pain."First incursion into Call Me By Your Name fandom. I saw the film last week, and fell into it, harsh and deep. As many, and though 3-minutes-crying Elio in the end is breathtaking, I needed a fix-it, read the beautiful ones here, and wrote a quick one. So let's not get Oliver on that fucking train. For good, grounded, and philosophical reasons (and not codependency). Isn't Oliver a philosopher?

This story starts five years later, when Oliver and his fiancée go to a concert in the lavish opera hall of Versailles and suddenly Oliver recognizes the pianist as the young man whom he had waited for at midnight, but who never showed up.
“Hello,” Elio said again, this time in English, and Oliver’s heart jolted back to beating. Yes, it was him, alive and well and breathing. His hair was less wind-blown and his shoulders and arms more filled out compared with the string limbs of that summer, but the softness of youth still lingered on his face.
