Summary
Being a Hero was all Madelyn wanted until a servant boy captured her heart. Class division forbids them from being together, and while hiding their affair, a desperate choice to save others forces her into a revolution. With power at her fingertips, alliances are forged to destroy her heinous brother, usurp his crown, and reunite with Elliot. Unbeknownst to her, Elliot is expelled viciously from the castle. Before all wounds can mend, he attempts to find her and only unearths more heartbreak. Struggling to reclaim himself, he tries to build a different life, but the falseness of his reality is exposed when Madelyn returns. That was the one thing she and her brother shared.
She wished she *didn't* walk into that study that morning, and run her fingers over books she vaguely remembered seeing in her childhood when she was allowed up here. Pulled down that aged leather book, and traced over the image of the guild seal, though it was of different design than the one resting on her hip. She shouldn't have opened it up and looked at the large paw print in the corner of the first page, and the bird doodled there.
She sat against that stained glass window, and read.
She knew there was someone who could answer her questions. And she despised it.
She hopes he isn't home. -
