Summary
New York is in shambles, and so are the Avengers. Tony's had enough of SHIELD's schemes and decides to quit, which is bad news for Fury, since SHIELD could use his expertise in the face of new rising threats. When Thor returns to Earth with a weakened Loki in tow and orders from Odin, Fury gets a brilliant idea... a plan involving Loki, magic, seduction, fake business transactions, and so, so many lies.
But maybe there is a bit of truth in the mix, as a certain God of Mischief and a Man of Iron are about to realise.

If he closes his eyes and forgets how his body sags beneath the weight of his exhaustion, he can almost hear the sounds of Asgard around him, the guards standing sentry at each corner, the maids running in and out of chambers, his father's voice from the throne room. For a breath, he can hear the rustle of his mother's gown as she walks through her favorite rose garden, and the soft, hushed sounds of a little brother who is silent to everyone except for him.
When Thor opens his eyes, he almost expects to find Loki standing there, but, of course, he doesn't. At the end of this day, everything from his memory is gone and Loki somewhere else entirely.

Following the defeat of the Dark Elves Loki, for his assistance, had his sentence on Asgard commuted to working with the Avengers to defend Earth. Loki has for almost a year been living in the Avengers' upstate New York facility and works now as part of the Avengers team but is not an Avenger. Bucky Barnes has recovered his memories and is an Avenger in waiting who also lives in the Avengers facility. Over that year Steve has gotten to know Loki and his history, finding to his surprise common ground and more. Steve, Bucky and Loki can regularly be found hanging put together as they adjust to the world they now live in. Loki has learned to trust more than just Thor and Frigga.

Summary
When the Avengers ended a debriefing they are held hostage by a magical creature that has the ability to get into their heads and show the memories to the others. Tony always had kept a cruel secret that now comes to light. And of all people, it's Loki that helps him afterwards.
This takes place after the Avengers and does ignore Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America and Age of Ultron completely. Here the Avengers found out, that Loki was forced to work for the Chitauri and he was acquitted and allowed to live on earth. From time to time he helps , apart from that he has a life of his own. The Avengers live in the renovated building, formerly known as Stark Tower.
I tend to believe that every hero has a back-story where something went really, really wrong. I wrote some stories about the Avengers focusing on things that happened to them, were done to them or they did and how it influenced who they are. -

Thor could feel fingers pulling lightly at the fabric of his clothes, not to gain attention, rather the opposite, he thought. Each pull was at his side but Thor felt them deep in his chest and knew he was in trouble. It was a strangely happy thought.
