Summary
Will Graham, a reclusive profiler with preternatural empathy, hides a dark secret: he is a vampire, turned at age thirty-eight during a brutal encounter that cost him his humanity and sense of self hundreds of years ago. He feeds rarely and only on those he deems irredeemable—criminals, abusers, the worst of humanity. This helps keep his conscience intact, but he's still consumed by guilt and self-loathing.
The FBI, unaware of his nature, brings him back into the fold to consult on a particularly gruesome case involving bodies drained of blood and arranged in symbolic tableaux. The precision and aestheticism of the murders confound the team.
Enter Dr. Hannibal Lecter, forensic psychiatrist and consultant. Erudite, refined, and disturbingly insightful, Hannibal immediately develops a fascination with Will. Will senses something wrong with Hannibal, but can't pinpoint it—his empathy isn't working correctly on him.

A cardinal skittered overhead, chirping from a rickety branch and scattering a cluster of leaves down upon the man-and-canine-made track. It was a nice day, Will supposed. Wet earth shrank beneath his boots and shoots had risen from the new growth to get a taste of the sun. The sun, blistering in its heat, used to make him queasy and desperate for the familiarity of the shade and its darkness. Now though, it was welcomed. The weakness had long settled into his bones, it was the sun that made him feel human, or as close to it that Will could ever feel. He was taken by days like these, like a moth that kept getting too close to the flame, burning its wings for the feeling of cradling warmth.
- Will is a vampire who just wants to be left alone drinking cheap pigs blood, Hannibal is not going to let this happen.

Be it his usual three-piece suit of an exquisite dress shirt, an expensive tie matching the waistcoat and the jacket or his more casual way of dressing in just dress shirt, tie and waistcoat. However, Will’s undoing was always the almost debauching picture Hannibal Lecter handling one of his sleek knives, standing in his kitchen dressed in a dress shirt, tie and waistcoat with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

Hannibal was used to seeing Will’s wolf watching him from behind blue eyes. A feral beast that had accepted Hannibal’s own monster as someone equal despite Hannibal’s lack of claws and fangs.
However, when the New Moon ruled the night and turned it pitch black, Hannibal always looked out for Will and the wolf usually lurking in his eyes. When the song of the moon was at its weakest, both man and wolf needed Hannibal’s sure hand to lead them.

Will was tired, bone-deep tired after a long night…and hungry. He wanted nothing more than just sleep after he had sated his hunger. His skin was itching, the light too bright and the hunger made him too dangerous to stay among others…but new a murder and a call from the FBI called Will out of his den.
Will stared down at the mutilated body in front of him. His fingers itched like he had claws and his teeth hurt with the desire to bury them in the soft meat of the victim. His mood wasn’t good enough after last night to be around people and his hunger only made it worse.
