In between the blacked out walls of text was an out-of-focus polaroid. It was blurry, clearly taken with haste. Charles grimaced when he realized what he was looking at.
“Oh, God.”
The picture was of severed tails, hanging like butchered carcasses in a slaughterhouse. Some looked whale-like, others scaled, but the shape of them was undeniably not those of the sea creatures they superficially resembled.
