Jay knows that, so he lets out a breath, trying to focus on the facts they have: Antonio didn’t say who was being held hostage, just that it’s in a pool area. Which is actually more terrifying than anything else, given Hailey’s history of throwing herself into bodies of water to solve cases. He knows he has to trust her, has to trust that the team wouldn’t let her do anything dumb, but he doesn’t know what’s going on yet. He’s allowed to panic.
The drive simultaneously takes forever and is over in a minute, it seems. It takes everything in him to not lose his shit and maintain some semblance of professionalism when he sees the look on Antonio’s face. He’s got to be a leader, to act like this is just any other day, not one where his wife is possibly the hostage.
“It’s Upton,” Antonio says, and Jay feels his heart stop.(or: Jay's SWAT sergeant. Hailey gets held hostage again. he has a totally normal response to that.)
