After being murdered, you wake up in devil may cry and not long after your soul was plucked by a higher power known as 'The Being' to be an angel after the world has gone over 2,000 years without after the demon world was sealed away by Sparda. You barely survive a trial, gain a holy weapon that's sentient and can't stand you, trade your memories and most of who you were before for power out of fear and spite. You make it your personal mission to kill your brother, it matters not what you have to sacrifice, nor how much time it takes. Along the way you run into a cult, an eccentric brothel owner, and about 12 years later, meet a devil hunter by the name of Dante, joining him from time to time on big jobs, like the one you're on now with the Qlipoth. You meet V and his familiar griffon, an introverted poet and a strange talking bird.
Then there's you, a mostly apathetic mercenary with an affinity for bombs and chaos, having only taken this job for the love of the chaos, and to help V. -

August was raised in a convent kept by “The Sisterhood of the Shield,” A slightly more modernized and open answer to the reclusive Order of the Sword. This was not a particularly pleasant arrangement for a person who most definitely had some form of demonic blood in her veins. In the aftermath of the Crisis of Redgrave, she discovers a plot amongst the Holy City of Batrice’s elite to unleash a new Hellgate - or rather an ancient one sealed by the Dark Knight Sparda. Though she thwarts the plan, she falls through the gate, and lands within a temple dedicated to the sealed demon prince, Beelzebub, the youngest recognized heir to the Darkness Mundus.
Upon freeing Prince Beelzebub, the two agree to travel together to escape the demon realm. They both have business in the human world. Beelzebub is a curious demon; one with no ill will towards humanity. But he was sealed away by the Dark Knight regardless. Why? Meanwhile, August sets out in search of a young man. A devil hunter with white hair. The same white hair that she bears. Perhaps he may have some answers as to ‘who,’ or rather, ‘what’ she is…
