Summary
Alberto can't wait till the end of spring comes and the heatwaves of the summer roll in. From the monotonousness of his daily jobs working for Massimo and others in Portorosso, he gains a spark to his days having to spend it all with Giulia and Luca. Though his friendship with Luca takes a change that summer, some feelings come to light that Alberto had tried to repress over the years. He doesn't want to ruin an important friendship but he wishes so desperately to have more with Luca.

“I’m so glad to be back,” Luca says breathlessly, hanging onto Alberto’s waist for dear life as they ride Giuletta’s bike down to the docks to pull up last night's nets.
“Well, we’re glad to have you back,” Alberto says breezily, but he has no idea how much it messes with Luca in the head. “Everyone always asks about you, you know.”
Luca blinks, humbled by the idea. He exhaled softly through his nose, clutching tighter onto his shirt. “I missed you so much, Alberto.” He mutters, tightening his arms around his waist again. “Veramente. I’m really glad to be back.”

A child was sucked beneath the waves. A parent began to scream from the shore. One of the guards yelled at everyone to get back while they looked on helplessly, blowing on a whistle to try and get someone, anyone to bring a boat around.
And Alberto, without thinking, plunged himself over the side and into the water.
