They put him in the middle out of everyone, because it made the most sense. Reagan was driving, very much to Glenn’s protest, Gigi was passenger, and behind Gigi was Andre. Their “cargo” took up the driver’s rear seat, and the other three were all squished up in the backseat.
What didn’t make sense was why they were all packed into a minivan, when, seeing to the fact that they were the fucking shadow government they could afford something with some more space.

I just really wanted to write something in close quarters/road trips. I also really wanted a reason to write the “only one bed” trope. I had fun with it. ;) -

It wasn’t unknown to the rest of Cognito that Brett’s family was… Not the greatest. It was kind of an unspoken rule to not speak about it in case it brought up bad memories, but Brett didn't seem to notice anything or show any signs of trauma. It was still for the best though. He may not show it, but it’s there. It’s always been there.

Reagan reckons with her inability to give social support when several attempts at comforting her best friend EXPLOSIVELY backfire. Brett grapples with his tendency to seek comfort from fictional characters instead of real people. Various typical Shadow Government shenanigans occur in the background...including some suspicious memory or timeline tampering that's created yet another obstacle to Reagan being CEO of Cognito.
I love Reagan and Brett's dynamic, but sometimes I think it's unrealistically positive? Created this story because it seems like there should be more angst rooted in how these two have such radically different emotional expression and communication styles, and that makes friendship tough sometimes.

In a low murmur he could just barely catch, Reagan tilted her head into his shoulder and said, "thanks, dad."
J.R. squeezed. "I'm so proud of you, sweetie," he gushed, kissing her directly on the forehead before returning to their conversation with the robes.
Brett blinked and rubbed his eyes. Was this his daddy issues talking, or was this a abnormal dynamic between boss and employee? No, that didn't sound right. J.R. never hugged anyone else during his time there. He certainly didn't give forehead kisses. And, sure, said daddy issues wanted a kiss on the forehead from a strong male role model, but he also recognized that that wasn't coming from J.R. He was pleased with an enthusiastic attaboy.
"Huh," he said aloud, eyebrows furrowing. "What the fuck did I just witness?"
