They were arguing about something.
He's sure they were.
They were arguing about something, but Juwon can't put his finger on whatever it was. Largely because his fingers are otherwise occupied tangling themselves into Dongsik's hair as he tries to pull him somehow even closer, like he can kiss the man close enough to fuse their bodies.
Dongsik isn't helping matters, what with the way his arms have banded around Juwon's waist, and he's not sure which of them is leading but eventually Dongsik's back hits a wall and there's an audible sigh of relief as he tightens his hold on Juwon, hand creeping up his spine to nudge him yet closer.
They were arguing about something, Juwon remembers.

It might be both.
Startlingly, Joowon finds he’s more upset about the broken wine bottle than the dead body. He thinks it might be that his brain doesn’t quite register the gravity of the situation. The other part of him thinks that maybe, just maybe, he isn’t upset that Han Kihwan is dead.

Summary
Almost every night, Han Juwon is plagued by nightmares.
It’s not the same dream every time, but it’s similar. In all of them, he’s the reason why everyone he loves is dead. He doesn’t see what happened, but he knows he's the reason for it all. And this time, Lee Dongsik is lying on the floor, bleeding out and looking at him with something like disgust, blood-stained lips forming soundless words that tell him this is all his fault.
This time, before he wakes up, he looks down at his hands and he’s holding the gun.
Han Juwon does something he can't take back, and he begins to spiral over it.

“We’ll be out of here in less than two days,” Dongsik said from behind him, amused. “Is our impressive Inspector Han too scared to sleep in a house with a couple dead bugs in it?”
“Despite your age, I honestly doubt your spine has become so fragile that it renders you incapable of cleaning up a few dead insects in the next ten minutes, Lee Dongsik-ssi.”
Dongsik barked a laugh. “This brat. Just you wait—in another decade I’ll be senile and you won’t have the heart to make jokes like that anymore.”
“Fifty-three is not senile,” Joowon pointed out.
Joowon returns to Manyang to stay.

It’s only ten minutes later that he stumbles across it-- the old, collapsed Shinto shrine that the elders claim was built by a Japanese immigrant who settled into Manyang almost a century ago. When the man had died, the shrine fell into rot and disrepair, as none but him had ever devoted themself to it.
It always makes Dongsik a little sad to see it, but today of all days, he feels the water of grief welling up inside himself and falls to his knees in front of it. He knows little of Japanese shamanism, but what he does know is that these shrines are places for spirits, and that the veil between himself and the afterlife feels awfully thin right now.
He’s never given much credence to spirituality or religion. Even so, his heart is broken and his mind is tired, and he finds himself praying for the first time in over thirty years.
