All's fair in love and war.

And by war, it is meant: making the upper warrior caste echelons give this common conscript the officer's commission he has always deserved.

    Summary

WIP, set pre-series between the Earth-Minbari war and S1. Delenn, Neroon and Branmer, coping with a world that looks quite different in peacetime. Not least because the Warrior caste is slowly imploding and Delenn keeps seeing pieces of a future that didn’t happen. Still, there’s games tournaments and cloistered religious orders and a lot of ways (not) to get along with your ex, and nobody’s seen any Shadows for a thousand years…

A synopsis of Minbari history in JMS sanctioned canon from the usual sources, script books and collectible production materials, as well as the B5W Rules Compendium, endorsed by JMS as "if you want the Real Deal, if you want accuracy, canonical authority...you've come to the right place". I include this source since it is OOP and rare as hen's teeth.

    Summary

Second only to scripture, novels are the books that "change readers' lives". Fiction matters.

To not use "genocide" to describe genocide is inhumane and unconscionable.

    Leading genocide scholars also advise:

"When genocide is used in a loose and irresponsible manner ... it diminishes the significance of and minimizes those actions that are truly genocidal in nature" -Dr. Totten, Genocide Studies and Prevention

"rhetorical issues are of some importance because calling every abuse or crime a genocide makes it steadily more difficult to rouse people to action when a genuine genocide is taking place." - Dr. Ignatieff, Lemkin memorial lecture.

This work examines the Earth-Minbari war of B5 canon, (as per JMS), in the context of international law & definitions by renowned genocide scholars.

If the B5 E-M war fits any such definition, we have a responsibility to call it so.

If -only if- it does not, then we should think about our use of the term, and if it's worth risking the trivialization that genocide scholars warn of.

Written for the prompt: "Imagine your polyship playing Dungeons & Dragons (or some other tabletop roleplaying game)." D&D. Sheridan is playing a Paladin (Lawful Good), Delenn’s a Druid (Neutral Good), and Lennier’s a Cleric. Sheridan has convinced Lennier to “c'mon, branch out a little,” so Lennier’s playing Chaotic Evil. Lennier has taken to the role a little too well, to Sheridan’s dismay.
