Summary
Not having to strap yourself against a surface at night anymore is nice, but that doesn’t explain why you share a bed without ever talking about it.
Plus, not knowing whether to kill the others or oneself, Jeopardy, wasting money effectively through talking, and living together with an alien.

Summary
Daniel Jacobi trudges through everyday life after the (not) affectionately nicknamed 'big blue clusterfuck' trying to put a name to the feeling crawling under his skin like a conga-line of snakes. It's not survivor's guilt—not quite. He decides, in the end, that it's a bit more like gender envy... except that the gender is being a frozen, blistering corpse floating aimlessly through the endless black abyss of space. His friends (dead colleagues) help (annoy) him through it.
OR
A collection of Jacobi's memories that Midland tries desperately—and fails spectacularly—to tamp down.

Summary
January was the hardest time of year for the both of them. The cold reminds them too much of the vacuum of space, how frigid loneliness could be; so they huddle for warmth.
Or; Kepler acts up, and Jacobi puts him back into his place.

And then both Jacobis shared a look. For a moment, Eiffel was hopeful that maybe they were reaching an understanding. And then they both smiled and Eiffel suddenly became very worried that they had reached an understanding.
“Anything?” they asked.
----

Summary
Jacobi and Kepler often stayed behind together on nights like these. Perhaps, to Kepler, it was simply a drink shared between a major and his subordinate, but, to Jacobi, it was everything. It was proof that he was doing something right. That he belonged here.
Or
Jacobi lets a weakness slip and Kepler is On That Shit immediately

Summary
“The thing about her,” He says, quietly, “Is that you wouldn’t have even known if she liked you until you really knew her. She wasn’t good at showing emotions, or knowing how to show people she cared about them. But...she respected you.” And I can’t tell if you proved her wrong or right, he doesn’t say. Alana Maxwell had appreciated efficiency, people doing what they needed to do in the most logical way. She might have been impressed or surprised that Minkowski had the guts to pull the trigger, if she hadn’t been on the wrong end of that gun.

Summary
At first, getting shot had been an inconvenience—annoying, painful, and stupid, but not world-ending. Maxwell’s reaction, however, was shaping up to be seriously apocalyptic.
Kepler is injured on a mission and discovers that he's not human. He's a project intended to test just how skilled Pryce is at creating artificial intelligence—could a robot think it was really a person? Yes, and that person is gunning hard for revenge. But like everything Kepler does, this revenge has to be perfect. If only there was something Pryce and Cutter really cared about that he could destroy to make them regret everything they had ever done. If only he knew what they really wanted.

Summary
Sometimes, this thing between the two of you seems so close to comfortable. It's strange, the odd domesticity of it, as he washes his hands at the tiny sink and you wait outside in the little rectangle of light shining onto the carpet from the open door, the quiet sound of the water humming in the background.
It'd almost be normal, you think, if he wasn't cleaning your blood off his fingers.

Summary
He is so different now than the man he was when he first kissed you; the courage he showed then is not gone now, but it is taken up in how he is keeping himself together, and there is little left to spend trusting you.
There is a difference, too, in the way he pushes you against the door, there is less desperation but more fear in it, too many things to say and you carry all of them in silence. His kisses are bruising, his breath floats deep purple and crimson across your lips and you breathe in the smell of him, the one thing that, after all this time, has never changed.Or: how to convince someone of their humanity while lying through your teeth about everything else.
