A knock steals both of our attention, and I have a brief moment of utter horror as the door to my room slides open. Chaos erupts. At least, that’s what it feels like. Arms are suddenly tugging me, moving me, shifting me until I’m behind a solid body, near face-to-face with a weapon that looks incredibly deadly. Oh.
“Why are you here?” Souten snarls, hand raised as if to cast a spell. “Get out!”
Kagome blinks, her big brown eyes suitably round and shocked. “Eh?”
“Souten,” I hiss, tugging on her shoulder. “She’s my friend.”
“I am,” Kagome replies solemnly, although it looks like she’s trying very hard not to laugh. “And you must be a friend, too.”
“I’m—” Souten balks, and I bite my lip, heat rushing to my face. “It’s none of your business.”
In a world on the brink of an all-out magical war, Shiori finds her salvation in a married couple who care for her far too quickly, and in a young female soldier who keeps climbing through windows to see her. Turns out, fate has something to do with it. Maybe even love, too.

Summary
There is a legend of a dog-eared hanyou who embarked upon a quest to become a full youkai who yearned for a sacred jewel capable of granting wishes. According to the fairy tale, the story ended in a tragedy, with the hanyou killing his elder brother after he himself had been fatally wounded by him, followed by the disappearance of the youkai.
Tokyo, 1999. Every 20 years, a ritual occurs. This event is known as the Shikon Jewel War, with 10 Masters fighting for the right to make a wish upon the Shikon Jewel, aided by Heroic Spirits known as "Servants" in a battle royale. 15-year-old Rin Noto, the last of a now extant Magus bloodline was only ever minorly aware of the War's existence finds herself in the middle of an extraordinary situation, grasping a sword that cannot cut over a summoning circle after reading her father's notes, and a man with a crescent moon on his forehead glaring down at her.
