Jack's and Toby's relationship made little sense to anyone who wasn't Jack or Toby. Jack kept to himself and was considered a hermit. Toby was a laid-back social butterfly. Those two didn't have much in common but for some reason, they worked. They changed and grew together and made one another happy.
However, as Zalgo's army continued to grow, their time together grew thin. It was only a matter of time until Jack had to say goodbye to the proxy for what might be the last time.

Spotting the door, I curled my fingers around the knob and pulled it open—and there she was.
She spun around as soon as the door creaked open, eyes wide, thick curly hair haloing her small face, and though she was all the way across the dark room, I could tell she was breathing heavily. I could almost sense her anxiety.

I took a step forward but before I could speak the closet door behind her slowly creaked open and a body almost fell out that she caught in time, grunting as she shoved it back in hastily before slamming the door shut once again.
