"You’re lying,” Foolish insists, allowing Vegetta’s fingertips to wander, straying across the expanse of his shoulder; tilting his head, almost subconsciously, as they find themselves at the side of his neck. “You led there all still even when I took hold of your sword. You’re telling me you just let anyone come along and steal your things while you’re sunbathing?”
“Not anyone,” Vegetta murmurs, distracted by a drop of water trickling down Foolish’s chest. “Just you.”

Summary
Vegetta doesn’t always sleep well, and waking up is often unpleasant.
On this particular morning, it takes Vegetta a moment to remember.
He wakes tense, as usual. Muscles locked in place, holding still – ready to run; to fight. When he opens his eyes, he expects to turn and see one of them beside him, occupying a space meant to be shared with a person you trust, not a person who takes that trust and crushes it to ash in their fist, grinning at the pained gasp it elicits – but then there’s movement, a rustle of bedsheets, a quiet sniffle.
Vegetta turns.

“I can’t leave you,” Lobo Nocturno stammered.
Foolish replied quietly, “I’ll be here when you get back. Save the kid first.”
His words were loaded with promise. A promise that he would stay alive and see Lobo Nocturno again. It was a stupid thing to swear, because there was nothing he could guarantee.

Foolish and Vegetta are two of heroes that protect the city from the Code. Working side-by-side on the battlefield and at their jobs has led them to have some pretty complicated emotions. If only they knew each other's true identity.
