The crowd parts before him like Red Sea. He wishes it could swallow him whole. He keeps his head high and eyes straight ahead. Then he makes a mistake and looks at the screen next to the stage. It’s split in two, like his life now: one part Juno’s own face, dark and haughty, jaw set and split lip. And next to him Ben, his mirror image – crying and shouting and held in place by Sasha.
Seeing that Juno falters, hands trembling in sudden absence, sorrow in his heart a physical pain and he almost looks back. Almost. He fixes his gaze on the podium and doesn’t let himself look back. He had heard enough stories to make that mistake.-

Summary
One year after he should have started at Palmetto, after he should have accepted Wymack’s offer and continued playing exy, Neil Josten instead finds himself working at a roadside gas station seventy miles outside Columbia. This Neil, never met Wymack or Kevin or Andrew after the dingos practice. This Neil never even made it to March in Millport, and now in the fall of 2007 he’s seriously starting to question how he’s going to live out the rest of his life.
When a certain blonde buying absurd amounts of candy begins to frequent the gas station, Neil wonders if he might have an answer to that question.
“You play?” The man nodded at the TV.
“No sir.” Neil would give anything for him to leave. He pushed the bag of drinks a little further across the counter, eyes flitting to the TV again.
“Ah, but you want to, huh? You look like you wanna climb inside that TV and join em.”
Neil blinked at the man, unable to form a proper answer. Did he really look so desperate?
“I don’t know.” It was a stupid answer, and it took him too long to get the words out, but it wasn’t like this conversation mattered much anyway. “I think I’m just not meant to.”

Summary
Andrew could have stopped it. He could have done something, had he known, had the information been stuffed in his back pocket. He can think of a thousand different ways he could have kept Neil alive. All of them are useless now. Neil is dead and he’s not coming back.
Or: After Neil dies in Baltimore, Andrew gets stuck in a time loop until he can change Neil's fate.
