Summary
Jean and Neil have been a package deal since middle school—best friends, practically family, and now roommates starting their first year of college together. Palmetto wasn’t their first choice, but Renee is there, and it’s close enough to a fresh start.
With their own apartment and no parents in sight, things should finally be simple.
What they don’t expect is for their across-the-hall neighbors to be four of the most emotionally repressed disasters imaginable. And they’re definitely not expecting to catch feelings before midterms.
Kevin has never been great with emotions, but something about Jean throws him completely off balance. Jean, meanwhile, is already half in love—until the Minyard twins won’t shut up about Kevin’s ex, and he assumes there’s no chance.
Andrew doesn’t do feelings—until Neil walks in like a glitch in the system, and one look is all it takes for Andrew to know he’s doomed.
Neil? He is just confused.
And through it all, no one questions how close Jean and Neil are. Why would they? They’ve always been like this.
Except now?
Everyone assumes they’re dating.
Which would be laughable—if it weren’t starting to ruin literally everything. -

Summary
Refusing to dwell on it any further, Andrew reached for a piece of chocolate from the tray and bit into it, letting the sweetness melt across his tongue.
It was smooth, rich, indulgent—easily the best chocolate he’d had in his eighteen years of life. Annoyingly so. He had to lock his jaw to keep from reacting, catching himself just in time. His throat worked around the swallow, silently choking down the sound that nearly escaped him.
“It’s fine,” he said flatly, like the chocolate hadn’t just tried to ruin his dignity.
Neil’s lips twitched—as if he knew—the almost-smile was there before he caught himself, schooling his expression.
Bee noticed too—of course she did. “Neil made those. He’s been working on perfecting the recipe all week.”
The pink that spread across Neil’s cheeks was immediate and unmissable—warm and bright against the freckles dusting his skin. Andrew’s fingers twitched at his side with the sudden, ridiculous urge to reach out and trace the color with his thumb, just to see what that blush would do under pressure.

Summary
Yesterday’s memory stabbed him—Andrew tossing him the Maserati keys with a flat, “You’ll need to drive yourself soon.” A casual jab, but it had landed like a blade, slicing open the truth he couldn’t face: Andrew was leaving.
Five months until graduation, until the twins and Nicky walked away, until the foxes—his family dissolved, leaving Nathaniel behind, who’d never understood what the Foxes meant.
He wasn’t enough. Not for the Foxes, not for Andrew. The thought was a splinter, digging deeper with every breath.
Andrew, his steady point in the chaos, would be gone.
He pressed his palms to his eyes, willing his heart to slow. Andrew wasn’t gone yet. There’d be calls, texts, visits—Neil knew this, he’d memorized the way Andrew’s jaw had tightened when he promised, “I’m not leaving you.” But the rational part of his brain was drowning. The nightmares didn’t care about promises and neither did Nathaniel.

Summary
A hum rumbled from Neil’s chest—content, unapologetic. Andrew watched him zone out, his eyes glazing just enough to betray the kind of trouble brewing behind them. Whatever he was thinking, Andrew knew instinctively it was going to be stupid.
And he was right.
When Neil leaned in again—but instead of a kiss, he burrowed into the crook of Andrew’s neck. The angle was awkward, the positioning all wrong, but Andrew didn’t shift. Didn’t correct it. He just let Neil stay.
Then, muffled and completely serious, Neil said, “We should get a cat.”
“No.”
“But you literally just compared me to one.”
“And I hate myself for it.”
Neil pressed an opened mouth kiss and Andrew shuddered. “ Neil .”

Summary
"They sent pictures, Kev," Nicky said, voice rising in pitch. "They’re at the cabin. They made it hours ago."
A heavy silence settled over the car.
Andrew didn’t react. Neil kept his eyes on the road.
Kevin snatched the phone from Nicky’s hands, scowling at the chat. "...That doesn’t make sense."
“Kevin, we've been driving for hours!”
“We’re fine.”
Nicky groaned. " No, we’re so lost. We’re so lost that I can feel it in my soul—"
Aaron sat up fully now, squinting out the window. "We should’ve passed the gas station by now," he muttered. "Are we sure we’re not driving in circles?"
"We wouldn’t be if Kevin hadn’t decided to play tech genius."
Kevin turned to glare at him. “Oh, and you would have done better?”
“I wouldn’t have touched the GPS to begin with!”
The car hit a pothole, jostling them all, and Nicky let out a startled yelp. “Oh my god. This is it. We’re gonna die in the middle of nowhere.”

Summary
“Have you considered the possibility that Neil has chosen you, but believes you have not chosen him?” Renee says. "Have you ever explicitly told him what you want?”
“Neil knows what I want,” Andrew snaps. This is not Andrew’s fault.
“How do you know?”
Because Neil always knows. He is as fluent in Andrew’s micro-expressions as he is in German and French. He knows which head tilts mean “go on” and which ones mean “shut up.” Without ever asking, he learned what it meant to see Andrew wearing double layers of long sleeves, or taking multiple showers in a day, and learned to hand Andrew the car keys.
That has always been the most terrifying thing about Neil — his patience to wait, watch, listen, learn. The prospect that if Neil were given enough time, there would be no part of Andrew that was just Andrew’s anymore.
“He has to know,” Andrew says.
“Does he?” Renee says. “Have you ever known Neil to assume that he is wanted?”
Five times Neil tells someone that he and Andrew aren’t dating, and one time Andrew uses his words to set the record straight.

"Though I always thought if you were going to date anyone on the team, it’d be - ”/ In which Neil pretends to date a Minyard brother. (Spoiler alert: It's not Andrew.)

Summary
He would never force Andrew through something he didn't want, but he needed to admit, at least to himself, that him deciding that he didn't want to accompany Neil through his decision would break him a little bit inside, taking with him a piece of him that could never be filled again.
But he won't let himself be like them, and so, he wants him to choose for himself.
Or, where Neil is pregnant and he needs to tell Andrew.
