Summary
“I’m from the undercity.” Viktor snapped, standing to leave before he could let his rage show on his face, hand shaking as he desperately grabbed for his cane. Viktor understood now - he realized - that Jayce would never understand the decisions he had to make, that he could never know Viktor’s secret. Once, he would have been angry at this realization. Instead, he was simply weary, filled with a bone-deep exhaustion that threatened to pull him to the ground.
“I’m sorry.” Jayce muttered after a pause. “It’s just been a lot lately.” And Viktor nodded as though this made his comments better - as though he himself did not have a lot going on as well - as though he were not a dead man walking. Jayce’s promises were empty nowadays, nothing more than words.
Jayce would not understand what he planned to do, Viktor decided. It was pointless to wish for anything other than this.

Summary
The first time that Ahsoka returned to Coruscant after being shipped off for the Clone Wars, she found herself unable to breathe, an all too familiar panic rising in her chest. Coruscant was loud and chaotic - and when the engine of a nearby ship had backfired, the padawan’s instincts had scrambled at her to run and hide - duck for cover while she was still alive and pray to the force that the blaster fire would miss its mark.
Ahsoka had been gone for two months. More often than not, this felt like an eternity, battles blurring into each other in an uninterrupted stretch of time, war drums beating in her ears even as she tried to rest at night and drowning out everything that she might have been before.
