I didn’t think you’d have a problem with it so I said yes. That’s when I realized that it would be just us and Josie tonight, so I called my mom.”
“Oh?” It took a second for the meaning of his words to sink in. “Oh!” It would just be the two of them. All night. Likely well into tomorrow as well.
Her husband smirked in response. “When was the last time we had a night alone?”

Her lips twitched and he thought she might smile, but she didn’t. If anything, she looked a little sad. “Ben, really, I can’t. We don’t -” she looked up, her luminous eyes meeting his for a brief moment before she stabbed him in the heart. “We’re not even friends."

“I don’t doubt it,” the night-cloaked stranger chuckled darkly. “But, sweetheart, that there is a double-barrel shotgun. You shot poor Mr. Plutt there just a moment ago, so, at most, you’ve got one shot left. Personally, I doubt you’ve got that. What do you think?”

Rey had not escaped by the time Kylo Ren returned to her interrogation room. The trick she’d tried to pull off on the stormtrooper hadn’t worked and they’d walked away laughing instead of freeing her as she’d attempted to compel them to.
She felt the pneumatic hiss of the door shutting behind him shiver through her. Or perhaps that was the cold gaze of his mask. He didn’t remove it this time and that scared her more than anything.
The games are over, that metallic facade said.
