Summary
He expected the sight of home to heal part of his exhaustion, but the door next to his bedroom's —that usually was left ajar— was now closed, reminding him of another bothersome issue that he still had to take care of.
Damn it, he's still pissed.

Summary
Jinshi had prepared for a great deal of possibilities when he summoned the Emperor, Empress and Maomao to this pavilion for clandestine matters.
He never would have guessed that it would be revealed to him he was the Emperor's son, nor that he would force him to keep Maomao or set her free for good right now.
Even if he had guessed that, he would never have foreseen a situation where Maomao stayed.

Summary
It is the nature of a phoenix to die, perhaps that is why Jinshi was as he was, the stars had deemed it his imperial symbol when he was still a child.
Yue was dead, he had died when he was no longer deemed a child and such privileges no longer permitted to those close to him. Zuigetsu was dead, a name already taboo that had hardly even attached itself to him and he had never been much of the prince the name demanded. Zui had died, it was a much nicer death than the others, on a night he leant against a door and heard an admission from the woman he loved. Jinshi was always destine to die, he had thought he’d be fine with that, it was just a mask after all, and now hardly even whispered by those he trusted with more than his life.
He would always return to being the Moon Prince, and he was so untouchable he did not have a name.
But it was also in the nature of a phoenix to burn.
~~~
The five times Jinshi thought about scarring himself with a burn, and the one time he actually did.
Summary
Regret for having done wrong;To be coated in gold
Maomao can't help but realise the similarities to the medical office today to just over a year ago, when the Emperor needed surgery. Something that sends waves of guilt through out all those close to the imperial family. Those who feel they are acting unfairly, coveting and clinging to things they shouldn't, guilt in defiance and deference in equal measure.
All of it, laying beneath sparkling smiles and glittering jewels.
Summary
Maomao has always lived by her own rules.
Jinshi has spent most of his life living according to everyone else's.
Somewhere along the way, the two of them became accustomed to each other.
It was never one grand decision. It was one more conversation, one more visit, one more reason to stay a little longer. Somehow, returning to each other became easier than leaving.
Perhaps that was kusare-en.
Not quite fate. Not quite coincidence. Just two people who had become far too accustomed to having each other around.
And, despite everything, neither of them seemed particularly interested in breaking the habit.
