After a particularly awful run full of scandals and failure and humiliation, Tad Strange once again finds himself drinking away his sorrows at a hole-in-the-wall dive bar known as O’Sadley’s. He has half a mind to throw in the towel on these skin covered, dim-minded, mostly made up of water, meat bags known as humans. However, regardless of how embittered Tad feels in that moment there is a prideful, and an intensely stubborn voice, within telling him that he can’t just walk away now. You’ve invested too much into this to just walk away, his inner voice argues.
Besides, what else would he have to look forward to if not this? Maybe instead of being hasty, instead of giving up, he can take a calming breath, sober up, and try again. One more try. He is not just Tad Strange, he is THE Starmaker. He will find his shining star. Unbeknownst to him, his star was still waiting to be discovered. Years ago, Stan Pines died under strange circumstances. His body was found, funerals happened, Pa was too ashamed to show up, Shermie too busy, Ma went... so did Ford...
And Ford learned a lot while at the funerals, more than he would have liked to. Like the fact his brother lived out of his car, of all places... At least, the car gave him a way to summon his brother's spirit, to talk one last time! Or it should have. It never worked... Ford kept the car anyways, for old times' sake.
In other news, a little over 30 years later, 13 year old Mabel Pines came back to Gravity Falls a year after her brother stayed back there for an "apprenticeship" with their great uncle Ford or whatever... Meaning she was alone to face their parents' divorce. And even now, her brother ignored her for his "anomalies". No big deal. None at all... Not at all the reason why she tried to leave the home at 1 am, only to be met with a homeless-looking ghost with no memories who decided to haunt her.
At least the nameless ghost is a good friend to prank Gravity Falls with!
