Merlin felt it rush past him, and then Arthur was on the ground, clawing at his throat as he gasped for air.
In the blink of an eye, Merlin’s magic tore through Sigan’s spell. Coughing, Arthur doubled over, only just catching himself on his hands, while Merlin wrestled his magic back under control.
Withstanding the urge to rush to Arthur’s side, Merlin glared at Sigan. “You will not harm him.”Ever since he defeated Nimueh, Merlin's magic is getting harder and harder to keep in check; especially when it comes to protecting Arthur. After his magic is revealed during Sigan's attack on Camelot, things are beyond tense between the two of them — and as the tension grows, Merlin's control is slipping.

Tony couldn’t honestly remember how long it had been like this. Probably since the day he’d called T’Challa and offered his help. At first it had just been compulsive self-denial: you can’t eat until you’ve drafted your opening remarks, until you’ve finished your research, until you’ve rewritten every last colon and comma and apostrophe in those Accords so that everyone can come home.
Those goals had been realistic. Lately, they’d become impossible. Until everyone forgives you. Until you forgive yourself. Until you make up for every bad thing you’ve ever caused.
He was fine. He was coasting in a dangerous place, but he was fine. He wasn't taking it too far - just far enough.

“I don’t like this,” Steve mutters to him, as he shifts awkwardly on his feet in the lounge of Tony Stark’s absurdly large Malibu mansion.
Bucky sighs and resists the urge to roll his eyes. This isn’t the first time (and it certainly won’t be the last) that Steve has expressed that very sentiment, and while Bucky also recognises the futility and drawbacks to this particular job, it’s a job, it’s their job and it puts money in their bank account, which is something that Bucky won’t turn his back on.
“I just don’t understand why someone like Tony Stark needs a bodyguard,” Steve complains, quietly. “Some spoilt little rich boy, so full of himself that he thinks the whole world is out to get him?”
“Shut up, or you’re going to get us fired,” Bucky hisses.
Steve shakes his head. “All I’m saying is that I don’t want to have to spend the foreseeable future looking after some dolled-up, greedy prep school reject.”
Or, alternatively, five times that Tony Stark surprised Steve and Bucky, and one time they didn’t really care.

Most of the time he doesn’t let himself acknowledge that “someone" has a name, has a face. Even though he’s all alone in his apartment, it’s too embarrassing to curl up on his side, hug the pillow, and admit that he’s so goddamn pathetic he can’t fall asleep without the comforting idea of blue eyes and rumpled t-shirts and broad shoulders caging him in.

Tony knows what the team really thinks of him. It's a delicate balance: they tolerate him because of his money and his toys, and he gets to stay on the team and fight with them. He's okay with that. So long as he hides the fact that Steve's and Bucky's names are written on his skin in the most embarrassing act of one-sided
loveaffection ever, everything will be fine.It just figures that a fantastically stupid villain, a kidnapping plot and a video camera will bring Tony's well-kept secret out into the open.
