    "A road trip?"

"Yes," Splinter confirmed with a nod, "when I was young, my occupation took me all over the country. I just realised that you boys have never had the same opportunity, you've never been outside the city."

"Except for Jersey that one time," Donnie corrected, and Leo groaned.

"Ugh, if that isn't reason enough to do it, then I don't know what is."

    Or

A completely feel-good road trip fic, because the boys deserve a break!

    Summary

It was cold. Bone chillingly cold. Mikey wanted someone to reach out and hold him.
He didn’t deserve to be held.
    What?
Finally, Mikey could breathe. He craved the sweet relief of oxygen coursing through his veins.
But the breathing was too fast. It was too fast and Mikey couldn’t stop it and- it didn’t sound like him. He didn’t sound like Mikey.
    He didn’t feel like Mikey.
    He felt fear.
    He heard nothing.
    He smelled copper.
    Heck, he tasted copper.
And he wished he didn’t see.
But he did. And he saw the Kraang. Worse, the Kraang saw him. It’s eyes could shoot straight through Mikey’s skull with how intently it was staring.
    Wait, it wasn’t just staring.
    It was targeting.
And Mikey was hit with a tidal wave of fear and loss and horror and regret and
    relief?
OR Mikey’s always been one to shoulder his brother’s pain. What happens when the family therapist begins to experience mystic empathy? New powers plus old habits die hard.

    Chapter 22
“A ton of feathers or a ton of bricks?”

    “Huh?”

“Which is heavier. A ton of feathers, or a ton of bricks?”

Mikey pulled his head up, pausing the scene he and Donnie were unfolding with their newest Jupiter Jim action figure yet. It was just the two of them, hence why Donnie was playing the villain. He was powerless to deny his four year old baby brother the role of the hero- that would practically secure his role as the villain in real life.

Where Donnie was going with the story, Mikey hadn’t a clue.

    “Uh, bricks?”

“Wrong, mortal fool!” Donnie swung his action figure high, tracing circles in the air till he landed right in front of their childhood hero. “They both weigh the same. The answer was hidden in the question! One ton! The subject matter is irrelevant!”

“What’s that got ta’ do with anything!” Mikey lowered his voice as deep as it could go without becoming scratchy. His Jupiter Jim impression was lacking, but boy was it adorable.

“Nothing.” Donnie dropped his villainous tone, he was just Donnie now. “I just read about it earlier.”

    “It’s for real?”

“For real. Think about it, Mikey- a ton is not just a saying, it’s a unit of measurement. Two-thousand pounds of measurement to be exact. The riddle is dependent on the word ‘ton’ because it skews the listener's interpretation of the question. Whether it be feathers or bricks, a ton is still a ton. Do you get it? Isn’t the English language fascinating?
