    It took a second for his sputtering brain to reconnect to his mouth. "Your shoes. I meant take off your shoes."

    Lan Huan scrolls through Wei Ying’s profile, and the gentle tap of his finger against the screen shudders through Lan Zhan like the screech of a misplayed note. His whole body is tense, and he exhales slowly, working to unclench his jaw by degrees.

    “It says here,” Lan Huan says with characteristic good humour, “that he’s looking for fun.” He nudges Lan Zhan with the tip of his toe. “You could do with some fun in your life.”

    Lan Zhan could do with a new brother. “No,” he says, shifting out of Lan Huan’s range. “Thank you.”

    When his brother creates a dating profile for him, Lan Zhan doesn't expect to match with the most obnoxious vendor at the Farmers' Market. Wei Ying is looking for fun, Lan Zhan wants out of this mess, and Lan Huan just wants his brother to be happy.

    “Hey! I’m curious! It’s not my fault I was put on this planet with a craving for knowledge, Lan Zhan!” He caught up and pointedly rubbed his nose where he knew he’d been in Lan Zhan’s line of sight.

    “I drive safely,” he repeated. “The ‘bad boy’ association with motorcycles is a myth. No, Shufu does not know.

    “Aha!” Wei Ying shouted. “So it is an early twenties rebellion thing.”

    Lan Zhan glanced at him with a heavy gaze that Wei Ying couldn’t parse. The last thing he said before remaining silent for the rest of their walk was, “Amongst other things.”

    Fuck, he had totally walked into a set, hadn’t he? The beautiful, ethereal looking actor in his period piece outfit was pissed and waiting to tear him a new one, if the expression was any clue.

    One moment the man was up, and then, the next second, he had gracefully jumped from the wall in front of Wei Ying, who, only by the strength of his will, did not scream in alarm.

    He did yelp a little. But very manfully.

    “No entry after sunset,” said the man, and his voice was deeper than Wei Ying could’ve guessed. “How did you get past the wards?”

    Lan Wangji goes into a fevered rut and accidentally bonds with Wei Wuxian. When they next meet, he remembers none of it, and Wei Wuxian is determined to keep the bond a secret—even when he's sent to the Cloud Recesses to be a consort in Lan Wangji's harem.
