The other person makes a strangled noise. “Hollander?”
Shane’s heart stops. It can’t be. He slowly raises his head– but oh, God, it is. Ilya Rozanov stands in front of him, face ashen, knuckles white around his can of Coke.
“What are you doing here?” he blurts, then immediately winces at how accusatory that sounds.
“Am on holiday,” Rozanov says flatly.

Shane's Christmas trip to Tokyo has nothing to do with Rozanov. So what if it's a nice, safe distance away from Boston and confusing conversations over tuna melts? Tokyo is safe. No one knows him here.
Except, of course, until he bumps into his rival at the airport. And at the hotel. And again and again until maybe none of this is really a coincidence at all.

Set the evening after Alec looks through Magnus's box of memories in season three. I felt like, in reality, that would have cut a lot deeper than the show let on and I needed a better resolution. There's a tiny plot about a Warlock child too, but it's not the main point of the story.

Magnus is so used to everything being purely sexual when it comes to people's interest in him that he doesn't even think the young shadowhunter would be interested in dating him.
(AKA Magnus thinks Alec only wants sex. Alec thinks Magnus only wants sex. Nobody actually wants sex.)
