In an alternate Season 4, a Dean from the future appears to Sam about a month after present-day Dean dies and goes to Hell. Future!Dean has a proposal: he will retrieve Dean’s soul from Hell and temporarily house it in his own body, alongside his own. If Sam can figure out how to re-soul and heal his brother’s body (and Future!Dean assures him he can do that because he’s done it in the future), then Sam gets his brother back, all in one piece. No angels needed, thank you very much. Sam’s more than a little freaked out, but agrees because he’s ready to try anything to get Dean out of Hell.

Summary
In an alternate timeline, a hundred years in the past, humans are on the defensive in a world overrun by supernatural creatures. Part 1 is a coming-of-age story in which Dean grows up on the family farm with his foster-brother after his mother deserts them when Dean was four (and Mary was secretly pregnant with Sam). In part 2, Sam and Dean reunite after a six-year separation to go in search of Mary and answers to the meaning of Dean's visions. Part 3 has the boys reunite again to travel through the damaged western countryside, empty of human life, to help their mother take down the demon that cursed her family.

Alt-pre-season fic featuring BoyKing!Sam who has more control over his powers than canon, wiping people’s memories ala Andy Gallagher but oh man when it comes to his dad and Dean things get so emotionally charged. Well-written and gripping as all hell. Definitely deserves a re-read! Hoping for sequels.

To cure Dean from the Mark of Cain, Sam has to let Dean, in all his demonic glory, possess him for 28 days. It goes about as well as expected.

“Like a Ghost With Two Voices” by Dyed_Red. This is the demon-Dean-possesses-Sam story I never knew I wanted. Dark, angsty, devastating, and well-written. Post-possession, Dean understands his brother in ways he never would have if he hadn’t possessed him, not least that Sam actually likes being possessed.

My comment: Leaving Las Vegas by fictionallemons. Aw, you gave them their happy ending! I know you promised to do so in the tags, but I worried right along with Sam. He was so persistent about finding out what had happened to them, worrying about consent, concerned that whatever was missing from their memories would change things just when they seemed too perfect (or was that Dean? Sounds more like Dean!) Anyway, I really enjoyed this treatment of one of my favorite fanfic tropes and have bookmarked it so I can find it to read again!

Wonderful, funny, emotional Dean POV late-season fic Here are my comments:
OMG I love Soulless Dean! He'd rather be making chili, indeed! ROTFLMAO! Suggesting they have sex to let off steam, because of course he would, with no guilt-trip stopping him, the hedonist. And of course his fear of flying goes out the window with his soul. Then that hilarious visit by some random demons from Hell, begging Sam to come be their King. YOU FIXED THE VOICEMAIL! The sex makes so much sense. Dean would totally give Sam what he wanted, but without his soul, Sam can be sure he's not just giving in for Sam's sake lol. Demon Steve! I love the notion of him "defending their honor" when Dean expresses distaste at the thought of fucking teenage Sam. LOL! Major kudos for remembering Casey! I loved that stupid episode. Dean watching BBC dramas *hee* All of this is just priceless!
Sam using the Mark to save tortured souls in hell *sob* I'm not crying you're crying *sob*
I love Dean just being honest with Sam, telling him what a good person he is, recognizing that his souled-self would never be so forthcoming or self-aware. *sob*

Dean being jealous of his soulless self is so in character! Self-doubted fully re-instated :)
