After Derek merges with the King in Yellow, he expects to die. Instead, It gets them stuck in a strange loop of the previous few months. Fine, then. Derek will save Avery from his fate over and over again. No matter what happens, no matter what it takes.
The King is now partially living in his head, which does make things harder. And his sanity is slowly deteriorating, and he’s trapped in what’s basically hell. But it’s fine. He’s got this.

Look, Avery isn’t stupid. Minecraft is a video game, and he knows video games. And the cardinal rule of gaming? Set your save, especially when in a scary eldritch prison you may or may not have broken into.
It’s simple reflex that has Avery clicking one of the many white beds in the crimson village. Then, it’s desperation that has him waking in that bed, again and again. And many, many, more times after that.
It doesn’t matter how many tries it takes—how many times he has to see Derek merge with the King, how often Avery has to take the fall. He’s going to find a way to get the both of them out of this, one way or another.
Or: Avery tries to outsmart a God and the world’s smartest protagonist, and has a bad time.

Avery is very good at this. Derek is very bad at accepting it. They are both, slowly, figuring it out.
A collection of soft moments set after the end of everything, grocery runs and bad Skywars games and 2am conversations and learning, little by little, what it means to just exist without the weight of the universe pressing down.
Whatever you do at the crossroads, keep going forward.
They did. This is what comes next.
