Alec had trained his whole life to protect the mundanes, keep the downworld in order and make sure his family always came back from missions. In the past week, he'd failed at all of those things. He couldn't keep his family safe, he couldn't keep demons from possessing him and he couldn't bring himself to take Magnus' advice to forgive himself. He was on the verge of completely losing it when a little warlock child comes stumbling out of a bush at the institute. The last time he saw her, Iris was whisking her away through a portal talking about the dangers of this world and he didn't blame her but here she was again, standing in front of him looking for help. Alec refused to let her down.
