It's been 18 months since Will returned to a torn-apart Hawkins, knowing a final confrontation with Vecna must be coming soon.In the meantime, he still has to go to school while running secret missions under the nose of an aggressive military presence and trying to hide that his feelings for the best friend he's living with aren't what they used to be. But none of that matters when Vecna announces his return by nearly killing Hopper and kidnapping Holly Wheeler.
This was written in a rage following the season 5 finale. It's exclusively from Will's POV, so anything that happens without his presence is mostly skipped over and it assumes you know from canon what happened.

The rapid rhythm of your heart persisted, going crazy in your rib cage at the thought of existential dread. Parenthood wasn’t something you were particularly crazy or happy about. Hell, you weren’t sure you had the right upbringing either. Co-parenting with Steve was also the least of your worries. An Alpha Mike/ Omega Will 18mo + s5 partial rewrite
It feels like flying too close to the sun. There has to be a point where Mike realizes what’s going on and stops it. Where he realizes that everything is teetering on the edge of being wrong, too far, inexcusable. What will the final straw be? What is the thing that Will gives in to, far too heartily, with enthusiasm that doesn’t seem platonic anymore.
Will it be something instinct based? A moment where Will can’t stand the way his scent clings to his clothing or how everything blooms when Mike stretches his neck for the fiftieth time in an hour? Or is it just one of those moments where he crouches down and looks up at him despite being several inches taller, that makes Will snap and say something – or worse – do something.
Would Mike be disgusted? Perturbed? Uncomfortable? Would he pretend it's not a big deal and simply pull away slowly? That one would hurt the most.
And then Will remembers El, and his thinking breaks down ever further.
Mike has a girlfriend. It would be stupid. It would be counterproductive. It would be reckless and mean and wrong. Ultimately wrong.
That doesn’t stop Will from wanting it.Series
