You see, for you to be able to leave, you need to have fulfilled all of your marital duties. I wouldn’t try taking your little Shizun through the barrier while he is still a chaste man. I don’t think you would like the results much.”
Mo Ran's search for Chu Wanning in the Ghost Realm finds them confronted with a choice: they complete their vows and fulfill all of their wedding night traditions or they stay trapped in the Fourth Ghost King's palace forever. Afterwards, they are left to contend with the aftermath.

Before meeting Chu Wanning, Mo Ran was certainly not the kind of psychologist who would harbor inappropriate thoughts about his clients.
He was truly committed to helping others through his profession, so he believed that taking advantage of people in vulnerable states who trusted him enough to reach out to him for assistance was wrong.
Besides, Mo Ran never had to resort to questionable, borderline illegal methods to satisfy his sexual needs. Mo Ran is aware that he has a good physique and nice personality, thanks to this he had his fair share of fun in the past. He might not have done hookups anymore, but he could get action through a simple call if he wanted.
But life works mysteriously, Mo Ran supposes, because he has the biggest crush (and boner) for the client that attends therapy every Thursday at five pm.
Or: the psychologist Mo Ran/patient Chu Wanning fic of my dreams in which I give Mo Ran everything he wants because that's what he deserves.

In that time apart, the long hatred flower erodes all memories of the things Mo Ran loves. This includes memories of his mother, his savior-gege, and now his shizun. Soon, Mo Ran has no memory that Chu Wanning ever existed. So when he stumbles on a strange house on the back of the mountain with a strange man inside who immediately starts crying and begging, Mo Ran’s heart softens in a way he’s never experienced before.

Sure enough, the door creaks open as though Shi Mei is checking that Chu Wanning has actually gone to sleep as he promised. Without looking back at Shi Mei in the doorway, Chu Wanning says, “I told you to leave.”
The footsteps crossing the room halt, but don’t leave. Irritation growing in his already painful chest. Chu Wanning spins around to scold Shi Mei for not listening to his shizun. The command to leave immediately dies in his throat before a sound escapes his lips.
Mo Ran is standing there. Ghostly. Still covered in the blood of battle. Tears running down his face. His eyes wide and his mouth open as though in shock. In his hand he holds a single perfect haitang blossom that falls to the ground as he runs to the bed Chu Wanning sits on.

In the Heavenly Rift, Mo Ran dies on Chu Wanning’s back as he drags them up 3,799 steps. Seven days later Huaizui arrives and tells Chu Wanning he can save Mo Ran. Chu Wanning agrees to do anything to bring Mo Ran back. The problem is, Chu Wanning knows Mo Ran died hating him and won’t want to return for him.
