Update update (Jan. 2019): I read through this again and am still really proud of it, but I've realized it is also pretttty cheesy. Roughly as cheesy as the summary (see above). Creative and sexy cheesy? I think so. But reminiscent at times of an old romance novel? Probably also yes. Enjoy. -

Two men stuck at the bottom of an abandoned diving pool where they played as children.
Mac doesn't fully appreciate how much he's depended on Charlie ever since they were messed-up little kids; it's no different now that they're messed-up adults. Charlie has seen Mac fly off the handle hundreds of times, and has defaulted to a kind of caretaker role when his friend needs to be brought back down to earth. They could never acknowledge this with each other; stuck on opposite sides of some invisible barrier.
Things are about to get very real for them.
