Summary
Iruka had just gotten used to being the focus of Hatake Kakashi’s incredibly intense attention (and had even allowed himself the fanciful notion that the famous Copy-Nin might like him romantically) when Kakashi was captured after a mission.
Kakashi returned to the village fundamentally changed. Rumors swirled that Kakashi had finally lost it, that he was off active duty, that he was jumping at shadows.
Kakashi was avoiding Iruka, only coming to him in moments of great anguish, but Iruka wouldn’t allow Kakashi to suffer alone, or run away from their blooming relationship.

Summary
Hatake Kakashi is an alpha Shinobi who has accomplished beyond his years. His failures are few but great in weight. Most recently, this resulted in the scattering of his students, each taking to a new teacher more suited to their liking. With his hands empty, he returns to what he knows best, working like he has nothing to live for.
Iruka left active duty years ago, staying comfortably in his Chunin rank to support the village from within. After a troubled childhood that left him out in the cold, he turned his poor coping choices inward and worked on crafting the perfect omega persona. A golden Academy teacher beloved by students and parents. A busy worker inside the Hokage tower, respected for his efficiency and Take No Shit attitude. A seal master who spends summer breaks crafting porcelain masks below ground.
When both have cast aside romance with apathy or rage, the simple scents of Lavender and Bergamont are the deciding factor.
Kakashi is left with another failure on his hands, dragging another good soul down with him. Iruka is panicking as his careful facade is pulled away.
