Summary
Nolan was used to being the best. He had fallen into a routine, where chess was just an obligation and no longer his passion like it used to be. It was no longer fun since que could so easily win every tournament. But that changed when a girl, who was not even ranked, beated him at his own game at a charity event. When the blonde girl dared to pronounce “Check-mate” to him, he accepted his defeat graciously, and that was so not him. Nolan was the one who punched and threw pieces at referees when losing a game. But that night, it was nothing like that… It was peaceful, because he finally understood that with certain people, what mattered was playing, and not winning. The girl, who had just won over the number one chess player in the world, ran before he could express that.
A rewrite of Ali HAzelwood’s book “Check & Mate”. The original story is her intellectual property. I’m just a fan who would love to enter Nolan's head.

Summary
"Love's a game. Checkmate." aka "Check & Mate" by Ali Hazelwood told in Nolans perspective. How did our beloved chess genius feel when his heart was being formed new by upcoming chess star Mallory? How did the story develop for him, what did we miss?
I am just a sucker for reading books in the perspective of the people that are not usually telling the story; Red, white and royal blue from Henry's POV, A good girls guide to murder in Ravi's perspective, so I thought: 'hey, why not try it myself?' and of course it had to be my current obsession "Check and mate"
I will follow the original story line, but obviously I have to think of some new scenes because the original book is not told from his perspective and there would be some major plotholes otherwise.

Her voice emerged almost breathless as she responded, her whisper barely audible. "Tell you what?" The question slipped from her lips, tinged with curiosity. His eyes opened, and his left arm moved, supporting him against the shelves behind her. It created a cocoon around her, a protective haven that eased any trace of unease. In Edward's presence, she felt secure. He was her sanctuary.
"Tell me to stop," he suggested, his tone heavy with a mixture of urgency and restraint. "Tell me you don't want this..."
"What if I don't want to?" she countered, her voice barely above a whisper.
