Summary
A group of fics all set in the 'Hold and Release' Underfell verse. As the new head of the Royal Guard, Papyrus considers it his civic duty to keep the people appeased, and to keep his brother safe from harm. These two goals don't always align.
“Bread and circuses” (from Latin: panem et circenses) is metonymic for a superficial means of appeasement. In the case of politics, the phrase is used to describe the generation of public approval, not through exemplary or excellent public service or public policy, but through diversion; distraction; or the mere satisfaction of the immediate, shallow requirements of a populace

Summary
While he didn’t mean to snoop into Epic’s personal business, seeing his roommate return battered and bruised every couple of weeks from his shift as a night guard in a nearby amusement park didn’t sit right with him. He was worried, plain and simple. Even more so because his friend side-stepped his gentle coaxing whenever he tried to get him to rest and recover. Every time, he would only give him the same sardonic smile and beg him not to concern himself with his mistakes.
Well, too bad for him, because Cross was greatly concerned!
(...)
The eye Epic always kept firmly shut was open and glowing a bright wine red. The light wafting off of it seemed to have a calming effect on his assailant, who soon collapsed against him. Epic didn’t bother to support his weight for long, instead electing to let him fall by the side and straddle him. His canines grew in size and sharpness as he did so, and he quickly sank them into the side of the dog monster’s neck with a satisfied sigh.
“What the- Epic…?” Cross found himself muttering. He stumbled back a couple of steps, unsure whether to run or stay put and demand an explanation.
Epic was a vampire.

Summary
He groaned, low and rough, the sound pulled straight from somewhere deep in his ribs. Cross dropped his face into his hands, burying the vivid flare of his skull behind trembling phalanges. “...And now it’s embarrassing,” he mumbled, his voice cracking beneath the weight of self-consciousness. “I’m so old and I have no experience—”
His hands slid further down, dragging along his face in theatrical misery before flopping back against the loveseat. “And then—” he sighed again, “I don’t want to kiss someone because they’ll be disappointed.”
It felt too honest. Too raw. The kind of thing you say and immediately regret.
He slumped deeper into the couch, like the cushions might swallow him whole if he just curled in enough. “Seriously,” he muttered, almost to himself, “who wants to kiss a thirty-year-old rookie?”

Summary
Hushed whispers echo around him, fragments of words dancing through his frantic mind.
The sky unfurls. White eyes blink open in the ether.
One pair, then two, then three.
Pressure builds behind █████'s eyes, nose burning as blood begins to drip down his lip. His ears pop, his brain screaming static, but he can't look away.He stares into the void, and the void stares back.

Summary
His eyelights were glassy, unfocused pinpricks of light floating within cavernous sockets. Fever radiated from him in waves, his bones glinting with the faint sheen of rising heat. Each shallow breath shuddered through his frame, erratic and unsteady, as though even the act of existing had become a battle.
The signs were unmistakable. Fevered. Overcome to the point of delirium. Every shiver, every labored breath, spoke of a body caught in the throes of a Heat so consuming that control had become a distant, unreachable goal.
For most monsters, this would have been ordinary—expected, even. An inconvenience of biology that, while inconvenient, was hardly unusual.
But this was Cross.
And therein lay the anomaly that hung in the air, thick and accusatory, like a question that demanded an answer.
"How curious," Nightmare murmured, his voice slipping into the room like a serpent through grass, low and smooth, almost inviting. His gaze never wavered, sharp and calculating as it swept over the trembling figure before him. "And here I thought you didn’t suffer Heats."
