Mike didn’t even realize what he’d said wrong until the radio part dropped from Will’s hand onto the floor, the sound of it hitting the ground echoing across the empty basement. When Mike looked up, the smile had dropped from Will’s face, and his hazel eyes were blown wide as he stared at Mike.

She had only turned away for a second, to admire the reflections of the lights on the water. When she’d turned back, what she’d been too slow to realize hit her. Dex’s ears were flushed red, his eyes searching hers. His mouth was set in a determined smile, and he’d changed position so that he was now kneeling in front of her. Held in his hands was a ring.
