But after each campaign Kix’s heart hurt a little more and Rex’s eyes looked a little more tired.
This was their cross to bear.
Medic and Captain.
The official report would go up the chain. Rex’s debrief to the Generals and officers. But the number would get lost somewhere in the many pages and all that mattered to the uppers in the end was that the battle had been won, not how many troopers had died in the campaign.
They never spoke about it.
They exchanged that look and carried on.((The bond between a Captain and his Chief Medical Officer is a deep and complicated one))

Summary
A chasm opened up on the Ghost that almost swallowed the four remaining Spectres. Kallus felt himself standing on the edge as they slipped through his fingers, falling. The ship seemed to echo strangely. There were empty bunks. Empty seats in the cockpit that no one wanted to fill.
The Ghost became well suited to its name, and Spectres One and Six haunted the ship.
(Post 4th Season, and Kallus is surprised to be the one holding everything together. He’s not sure how long he can manage it.)
