    Due to traditional Dan Vs. story reasons Dan has to go to Ohio to get his birth certificate and drags Elise and Chris along for the ride. Despite being negative towards him generally, Elise comes to understand Dan better as a result.

     

    So like, I binged all of Dan Vs for the first time and got a little obsessed with it. Specifically with the almost mother-child relationship that Dan had with Elise in season one, so I wanted to do something with that. Hope it’s enjoyed.

Since he was bitten by a spider that was brought back to life from his reagent, West has fit "saving the city" into his schedule, somewhere between "continue reanimation experiments," "go to work at the hospital," and "keep various secrets from roommate". Example A on the checklist: Don't tell Dan you're in love with him. Example B: Don't tell Dan you're the "hero" he takes photos of for his job at the Bugle.
    Should be easy enough, right?

    “You came back?” Herbert said, voice soft.

    Dan just nodded slightly. A lump rose in Dan’s throat. Herbert’s response had ripped a small tear in Dan’s heart. He’d never seen West look so…lost. So dazed and unguarded. Uncertainty replaced the typically acute stare behind those thick lenses. Dan tenderly reached for Herbert’s trembling hand. Finally holding onto the hand he regretted letting go of. He expected Herbert to flinch at his touch. Instead, Herbert gripped Dan’s hand like it was the only thing tethering him to reality.

    Basically: Herbert dies in the Miskatonic Massacre and Dan re-animates him, hurt/comfort ensues.
