After a year in California in which his mom gets together with Jim Hopper, they move together, marry and Will gets to know his, now stepsister, Jane, they decide to move back to Hawkins. He can't believe it. He just made a friend!He feels more anxious than happy to be back and his anxiety was right. His friends replaced him with Eddie Munson. Their attention shifts from him to Jane and now that he's back at the Hawkins High he has to face Troy Walsh and his friends again. Over the next few weeks he experiences bullying again and can't handle it properly. He gets insulted and beaten up for being 'a queer' and his friends don't help as much as they used to.
One day after a particular bad beating he cleans up in the school bathroom while having a panic attack and a boy helps him.
The funny thing is he looks just like Mike...

Summary
When Max hides out in Henry's memories, she comes across someone that is supposed to be dead: Will Byers. Will Byers, who disappeared November 6, 1983. The boy that the town buried after finding his body in the quarry. Yet, here he is.
Will helps Max escape to their world, and she sends Mike and the rest of the Party to help save Will. But El is insistent that this couldn't be all that's going on. How is this Will? And, if Will is alive, does that mean that he's being sent as a spy for Henry?
The reality is that on November 6, 1983, El made a deal with Henry. She swapped one life for another, and while she has spent her days pressed up against Mike Wheeler's side, Will has been living in absolute Hell running from monsters. She'll stop at nothing to keep people from finding out.
