“Can I help out on comms?” Buck asked Bruce before everyone in the manor filtered in for breakfast.
Bruce paused in sipping his coffee and met Buck’s eyes. “Are you sure?”
Buck nodded. “Yes, I’m sure. I want to help. I can’t just sit back and do nothing.”
“You know I don’t expect my kids to help out with the…nightlife.”
Buck knew that. Bruce would rather they stay safe at home. Unfortunately, those weren’t the types of people he had taken in and given refuge. Buck didn’t say anything; he didn’t need to.

Summary
“Nice to meet you,” Eddie nods to them both, eyes sliding to Captain Nash’s other side, where the fourth member of their little team stands. He’s the youngest of them, positioned with his chest puffed out and arms crossed.
Eddie knows his type—insecure guys who get all threatened when someone intrudes on their territory. It’s an unsurprisingly common archetype among young werewolves.
“Evan Buckley,” he says. “Buck.”
He holds out a hand for Eddie to shake, as the name clicks for Eddie—the one Captain Nash had been on the edge of warning him about. Terrorizer of probies, more than likely.
And he’s cold. It’s a sharp contrast to Eddie’s naturally higher body heat, and he’s sure that it’s a strange sensation for both of them. When he breathes in a little deeper to check, seeking out Buck’s scent, he stills. The coppery smell is strong, overwhelmingly so. Buck is cold, and pale, and slimmer than Eddie would expect a firefighter his age to be.

Summary
Different species have different ways of recognizing their soulmates, but very few know this.
Jaskier realized that Geralt was his soulmate the second they met, but when Geralt didn’t react—and even tried to scare him off—he knew he had to ease Geralt into the situation. Witchers supposedly didn’t feel emotions, but Jaskier was confident that he could teach his soulmate what love was.
Geralt found his soulmate by punching him in the stomach. No one had ever had a witcher for a soulmate, so Jaskier understandably never said anything. That was fine. Geralt didn’t want to have a soulmate anyway.
