Shinichi hated the soulmate business. He absolutely did. It was genuinely easy to do. Dealing with it might have been easier if he didn’t have a soulmate in the first place, but knowing that he had the chance and then it was taken from him was making it indefinitely worse. He was bitter about it, not that he’d ever let anyone know. So, naturally, he did the next best thing he could do. He pretended he didn’t care.

Or, the moment you were born, you may be marked with a timer counting down the days until you'd meet your soulmate. However, Shinichi was never one for much luck, so in the end it shouldn't have been much of a surprise to him when it suddenly started running backwards.
