Summary
Everyone is born with a soulmark, a glowing phrase somewhere on their body- the first words you hear your soulmate say after they realize they love you. Once you hear those words, your mark fades to a dark red or black. For Grantaire and Enjolras, their soulmarks have been nothing but trouble. They've both made it to their midtwenties without hearing their soulmates say those phrases, and thank goodness for that. Neither can imagine a worse soulmark to have, or any way those phrases could be said with love. Life is unpredictable though, and their stances on soulmarks may soon change.

Aziraphale and Crowley meet on the day of Aziraphale's first-ever therapy appointment. Their unexpected connection has the promise of blossoming into a kind of friendship neither of the two has ever experienced.
They have a lot of growing to do: Aziraphale’s sense of self-worth is as non-existent as his healthy work-life balance, while Crowley is so agoraphobic that the mere thought of going to the supermarket round the corner gives him clammy hands. And he hates clammy hands.
It’s not going to be easy and it's definitely not always fun, but it very much helps to have a friend who will say comforting things—or challenge you to a friendly competition to try and get a free lunch out of you.

Crowley, a lonely, overworked botanical researcher, has only one thing to look forward to in his unchanging daily routine - walking though the community garden he helps to maintain in his local park, where he always passes the same handsome blond man, whom he has never spoken to and feels too shy to approach.
Crowley is also a raging insomniac, and nothing helps him relax enough to fall asleep - that is, until he switches on the radio one evening and discovers the late-night advice programme of Aziraphale Fell, former priest and "soother of troubled souls". Mesmerised with Aziraphale's voice and struck by the gentle wisdom of Aziraphale's advice, Crowley feels his life and routine slowly begin to improve until he is ready to introduce himself to the two strangers he has fallen in love with - the handsome man in the park, and Aziraphale himself. How long can Crowley burn the torch for two men before he has to choose one, even though he knows very little about either of them?
A/N: This story is an alternative take on the In Your Own Time world I created, in which Aziraphale and Crowley did not meet as children, but it can be read as a standalone without reading IYOT.

The first thing that catches Enjolras's eye when he enters the Musain Cafe for the first time is the walls. They're a dull black that it takes him a moment to realize must be chalkboard paint, because near the tables there are words and doodles, and all over, even the erased sections are stained with faint colored marks like the walls have soulmarks.
