Summary
It wasn’t Langdon’s first time sleeping on the couch, and the way his marriage was going, it wouldn’t be the last. They’d had the same fight they always had, and it’d gone the same way as it had every time before. He came home late, Abby was frustrated he’d missed dinner, he’d told her someone was dying, she said someone was always dying, and he ended up on the couch.
—Or—
Abby makes him sleep on the couch, so he jerks off thinking about Mel. -

“Oh,” He said, as they got to his car, “I forgot my bag at PT the other day. D’you mind if I stopped in to grab it ?” He was leaning over the open car door, watching her.
“That’s fine,” She nodded, ducking into the passenger side. She had a sneaking suspicion this was a trap, a way to coerce her into meeting his physical therapist, so she might consider actually going to one herself.
“You’re sure ?” He asked, closing the driver's side door behind him, starting his car. She nodded, humming an affirmative as she put her seatbelt on. When they pulled into the parking lot, he was going to tell her she should come in with him, say hi. She knew it.
True to form, Langdon pulled in, parked outside the little red brick building, and, casual as could be,
“You should come in, meet Dr. Alvarez, he’s great.” It was like the thought had only just occurred to him. Maybe she was wrong, and this wasn’t a fully thought out, calculated attempt at getting her to take care of herself, but it sure felt like it. -

“Just let me know,” He said, hands in the pockets of his pants, “When you sneak out of here. I’ll leave whenever you do.” He said, eyes scanning the sky above them. She liked when he avoided her eyes, he’d always been good at picking up what things overstimulated her, and very rarely added to the list of things that contributed. She liked looking at him, when he wasn’t looking at her. The way his blue eyes reflected the street lights, as they swept across the sky. She wasn’t sure what he was looking for, out there, she certainly didn’t see any stars. Either way, his eyes moved across the sky and his eyelashes were long and dark and he was so handsome. He looked dashing, in his suit, his hair pushed out of his face, he was beautiful, even without her glasses. He was blurred and hazy in the yellow streetlight, and he was beautiful. In an instant, his eyes found hers, and she looked away. She’d been ogling him, practically drooling. She felt her cheeks warm up, pinker than even the makeup she’d applied.

Summary
“Langdon.” She said, as he drove. It’d be easier if he couldn’t look at her.
“Mel.” He replied, shooting her a quick sideways glance.
“Earlier today,” She began, “in the break room,” her hands fidgeted nervously in her lap, “you said something about, uh, well-“
“Needing to get laid ?” He finished for her,
“Yes. I was thinking about it,” Her stomach was quickly filling up with rocks and her throat burned just slightly,
“About me getting laid ?” He joked, smirking at her, eyes still on the road. The beat of silence that followed made him look at her fully, for just a moment, before turning his eyes back to the car in front of him. “What were you thinking about ?” He asked, tone more serious.
“I’m… going to tell you something you can’t tell anyone else, okay ?” Her eyes were burning a hole into her shoes, and she noticed the small speck of red that adorned the right one’s toe. The smallest drop of blood staining their surface.

Summary
Eventually, one woman, all the way at the end of the bar, did catch his eye. Long blond hair falling loose over her shoulders, a single point of stillness in the otherwise frantic scene. He put his drink down, wiping his palms on his jeans, grabbing his drink again. His palms were immediately wet again, the condescension on the glass. Better than sweat, at least. He made his way over. He leaned against the bar near her, gathering his courage to speak. He hated feeling nervous.
“Uh,” He started. Not his best work, “Hey.” He said. This wasn’t going to go well. She turned around, trying to discern if he was talking to her or not, and his heart nearly jumped out of his chest, it was trying to climb up his throat and out of his mouth, which made speaking hard.
“Dr. Langdon ?” Mel said, smiling widely.
“Uh,” He said, sweating.

Summary
When he finds the courage to leave the comfort of her steam shrouded bathroom, he makes his way out to the living room.
He stops in his tracks when he hears her, a fond smile etching onto his face.
He’s careful to disguise his footsteps on the vinyl floor, not wanting her to stop. He was rapidly beginning to realize he could listen to her sing forever.
She flits around the kitchen, alternating between humming and singing along to whatever music played in her ear, and all Frank can do is watch.
“Oh!” She says with a jolt when she finally notices him, “Frank! How are you feeling? I made spaghetti…spaghetti’s okay, right?”
“Yeah.” He nodded, “Yeah, spaghetti’s okay.”
She shuffles out of the kitchen a few moments later with two bowls in tow, “We can sit at the table, the couch…whatever you’re most comfortable with. If you want we can put something on the TV, that’s what Becca usually likes to do…”
“I like when you sing.” He can’t stop the words from coming, and he doesn’t regret them one bit when he watches her face change shades if only slightly.
“Oh.”

Summary
“Mel, the only time I’ve slept, really slept, in over a year is the last two nights I’ve spent with you,” Frank says.
“Okay…”
“And I was wondering if maybe there’s something to that,” he says, running his fingers through his hair.
Mel studies him for a beat, brow furrowed and eyes slightly narrowed behind the lenses of her glasses, before she opens her mouth to speak.
“You want us to sleep together?”
