Summary
Newly minted seafarer Jayce has his privateer career cut short when his ship is blown to smithereens by Pirate Captain Viktor and his crew. Jayce is the sole survivor of the wreck and finds himself put to his knees before pirates for the very first time, facing a murder charge. Jayce puts on a brave face but finds himself completely unprepared for the pirate captain’s decision on how to deal with him.

They are soft, galaxies swirling inside, and his partner's lips curve up in a smile. Familiar. Gentle. He drops the hammer, the Mage’s voice loud in his head, speaking of the incoming ruin, of eternal, dull stillness of life. But he can't do this. He failed. Viktor is not a man he can kill, never him. Not even for the sake of the world.
(Jayce immediately folds upon seeing Viktor in the commune and does not kill him. It goes better than he thought.)

"Let me do it," Viktor says, right as Jayce is mid-gulp of his moscow mule. Perfect timing. He half chokes and half laughs, but Viktor is committing to the bit, his eyebrows raised expectantly.
"Oh shit. Like actually, V?"
Jayce has a kink he’s itching to satisfy. His lab partner finally puts him out of his misery.

“This can’t be happening." Kim clears his throat.
“You are clearly going through… something. But I would appreciate it if we could focus on the case for the moment.”
“Oh my god,” you say. “We did it already, Kim, but for some reason I’m the only one who remembers! This is some—some cosmic joke from the universe, I’ll tell you that.”
“Okay,” Kim says, slowly. “I’m going to give you a moment while I talk to the manager. You’re going to sit down and sort out whatever it is you’re doing. And then we’re going to take down that corpse.”
