A one-shot in which I reimagine *that* scene in Season 1 Episode 6 of Heaven's Secret 2. I love the way this scene unfolds in the original, but I needed even more yearning and angst and inner monologue. I switched up some of the dialogue because it just felt right.

“What am I supposed to do now?” he whispers, breath catching on a painful inhale. He flattens a palm over his chest, as though it physically aches, and Penelope can no longer hold back the tears, “I hate Whistledown… but I cannot hate you. Not when I have already fallen in love with you.”
Colin leaves his brothers after a night of drinking - only to stumble into Lady Whistledown herself.

He moved forward until he was standing next to the bed, watching as you breathed steadily while that same frustration from earlier filled his body. He couldn't understand why you seemed to have misunderstood that you were his, no one else was allowed to see you in the way that he was. Only he could love you the way you needed, he was the only one who could truly care for you and he was determined to make you understand that.
