Summary
There’s a bit of loose paneling on the window leading to the roof of the White House, if you know where to look. Those who know to look close enough know that there’s a hidden message scratched into the wood there, if you peel back the paneling with something sharp. No one knows who wrote it. It’s accepted as a truth among those that have found it that it had to have been a First Son or Daughter.
Jesper discovered it on his second night in the residence. He hasn’t shared it with anyone.
It reads, in thick lettering: RULE #1: DON’T GET CAUGHT

“Why do you hate me so much?” Wylan demands. He crosses his arms over his chest, his brows furrow, and his lips downturn in a pout that’s probably supposed to be intimidating, but instead is irritatingly endearing.
Jesper huffs. “Do you want the list alphabetically, or in order of annoyingness?”
“Before this week, before the wedding, we’d had exactly one interaction, seven years ago, and on our second interaction ever, you shoved me into a cake.”
“You shoved me, you royal douchebag.”
Or: Jesper is the First Son of the President of Novyi Zem and Wylan is the Crown Prince of Kerch. Their respective countries have an already politically contentious relationship that is made worse by an altercation between the two at the Kerch king's wedding. To fix this, they intend to fake a long-term friendship to the media, but what happens when friendship becomes romance? Jesper shook his head, attempting to hand the paper back, “I’m afraid you’ve got the wrong man,” he said with a put upon smile, eyes darting for possible exit points, “I’m not a mercenary.”

Jesper is running down on his luck when he's approached by a merchant with a dark job for him. He doesn't want to do it, but when his father is threatened Jesper is forced to take the hit.
Sounds easy enough, until Jesper meets the boy he's supposed to kill, and everything starts to fall apart.
Basically an AU where Jesper WAS actually sent to kill Wylan during the Book!Wesper first meet, only Jesper never actually goes through with the deed
