No one knew how Rogers managed to get himself into the same unit as Barnes, and in truth I never thought to ask. It felt strange during those first few days after he hopped off the helicopter along with the C-rations, but by the next week the question of his presence seemed fully answered. Of course Steve Rogers was there. Steve Rogers was there because Bucky Barnes was there. Where one went, the other followed.

Sam can feel the backs of his eyes getting all hot. “I have to save him.”
Dad just looks at Sam. He hates it when Sam talks back, but he doesn’t look angry now. He looks tired and kind of sad. “Okay. Well. Do it quick.”
“You can’t just save someone quick, Dad. It doesn’t work like that.”
“Well how long’s it gonna take? Five minutes?” Dad looks through the open car window at Pop, who nods. “We can do five minutes.”
Riley sits up. “You want me to be dead for five minutes?”

Sam is about to start first grade, and moving from the DC Suburbs to New York City seems like the end of the world. But that's okay, because he and T'Challa decided his dads are the two best people to have on your team in case of a zombie apocalypse.

Steve steps up to Mr. Strange's desk still shaken and preoccupied, barely looking at the wand as he waves it, but by the time he’s gone through seventeen and none have let out so much as a whistle, he starts to panic. Bucky has shuffled closer with every failed attempt, and now he’s so close Steve can hear him holding his breath.
Steve breathes for him. He swishes the wand.
Nothing happens.
Steve Rogers is a good man. He's just not a very good wizard.
