Summary
The crew fly off to Jayne's home world for a mix of family, relaxation and fighting. The annual contest is going ahead with a nice cash prize for the victor, and the crew of Serenity is fair certain their own doc can snatch it up. But someone isn't playing fair, and it falls to the people around Simon to find out what's happening before anything turns dangerous.

They fell silent, moving through the ship towards the kitchen. Zoe stopped to make herself a drink, waiting for the Mal to speak again, as she knew he would. When he was ready.
He began to head towards his bunk but stopped at the doorway to the crew bunks. Zoe poured the boiling water into her cup, watching the brown liquid swirl.
"They don't belong there. Something happened, something bad. They deserve better." With that he moved away. Zoe took a long sip.

Cere lays her hand gently on the hilt of her lightsaber. It thrums with all the Light Side power she thought she would never have again, like a song she will never sing beneath her fingertips. Now, it fills her to the brim.
“Second Brother.” She says as he steps through the haze of smoke. “I’ve heard many tales.”

The Second Brother is sent to kill Cere Junda and finish off the Hidden Path. Cal Kestis may not be as dead as the galaxy thought. Merrin won't leave him behind again.

Summary
Well, this is just great, thought Simon. This is definitely where I wanted to be when I woke up this morning. It was a beautiful day, to be fair, the sun slanting through some really glorious fall-colored trees across a sparkling, crystal clear river. A native creature was making, if not bird song, at least some kind of mating call. There was a pleasant smell in the breeze, verdant and earthy and reminding him of late summers at his family home, back when he was a diligent student, studying on the back patio in order to fulfil his dream of being a doctor.
And here he was, pressing deep into a gash in Jayne’s leg to stop the bleeding, getting cursed thoroughly for his trouble.
Simon and Jayne get lost in the woods, literally and figuratively.

Summary
“You ain’t cussin’ at me,” Mal says indignantly, and rolls up his coat to shove it between the crate and Simon’s neck. “Don’t feel right.”
Simon actually laughs at that, a small little huff that bursts out of him, then turns into a pained gasp; he tilts until his forehead ends up pressed into Mal’s shoulder and he’s drawing shallow, shaky breaths against Mal’s shirt.

Or, an alternate universe in which the Gaang encounters Hama after acquiring Zuko but before Katara has forgiven him. Angst, bloodbending, but an eventual Hama & Kanna reunion.
