Discussions of her Father were never appropriate, Hilda had learned.
From her Mother’s solemn promise to tell her when she was older - a day which seemed never to come - to the stern finality with which her sister had once told her it didn’t matter whether or not they even had a Dad in the first place, because they didn’t need him when they had each other. Both responses taught her to avoid the question at all costs, regardless of how much it ate at her.
Lauren was the strong one, never afraid of anything and constantly reliable. Which made her clear discomfort at the mere mention of the man all the more disconcerting. But she was less fragile than their Mother, who Hilda had seen wiping tears from her eyes shortly after she had first asked.
If anyone could withstand the utterance of the unmentionable, it was her sister.

Oh, and of course, just to add to the difficulty of her situation, the kid is half demon. She's lucky she's so stinking cute.

I've seen so many stories completely villainizing Celine, which I'm totally interested in exploring don't get me wrong, but I also disagree that that's how she is in canon. She's a lot more complex than that, I think. That being said, this ALSO isn't based on canon. This is Celine doing a better job at being the parent Rumi needed.
Also note that the first chapter is a prologue and not really in the style that the rest of the fic will be written in, it's just like that for atmosphere!

No one is prepared for life to change so suddenly but when four kids blow up an apartment, a missing parental figure comes back, and two former best-friends hate each other some things are bound to go awry.(Alternative Summary: I was watching Arcane and realized every parent in this show loves their children but doesn't always handle everything perfectly. Introducing one more mother won't fix everything but it will affect these kids for better or worse)
