Summary
“Shinsou Hitoshi? Your father is here for you.”
Hitoshi feels a protest on the tip of his tongue, the correction of ‘foster father’ and the rock that’s been sitting at the base of his chest since he was dragged in here nearly surging up his throat, but he swallows it down, nodding to the secretary. He gathers his homework and haphazardly shoves it into his backpack, the jacket that Aizawa bought for him feeling too heavy when he ties it around his waist.
The office that had started becoming too monotonous in the thirty minutes he’s been sitting here suddenly feels all too safe, soft piano music drifting from another door down the hall. There’s a potted plant near the principal’s desk, and Hitoshi waves awkwardly at him, too, even if he’s not particularly pleased with the man right now.
Even if he knows that Aizawa is even less pleased with him.
---------
Or, in which Hitoshi is insecure and makes poor life decisions.
(You don't need to read the first part of this series to understand this one.)

Summary
For most of his life, Hitoshi has known he's a hopeless case. He knows that he's broken, that he'll never be more than the words in his file or the taunts of peers and parents alike, and he's accepted that. It doesn't matter that his new foster father seems to care a bit too much when Hitoshi doesn't even care about himself, and it doesn't matter that Aizawa ruffles his hair sometimes, or feeds him warm meals even though he can't cook for shit, or tells him he believes in him. Hitoshi knows that it'll all be over in a matter of months, no matter what Aizawa says, and maybe all he can do is speed up the process. Maybe, in the end, it'll hurt less.
Or: When Hitoshi is stressed, he falls into old habits, but Aizawa is there to pick up the pieces.

Summary
Hitoshi has been told for most of his life that he'll only ever amount to a villain. He's gone from one foster home to another where all he receives is hate or nothing at all. As a castaway kid thrown into the bad side of the system because of his quirk, Shinsou finds himself slipping through the cracks and drowning in a sea of mistreatment at home and in school. All he wants is a chance to breathe again.
When his role model tells him he's actually worth something, Hitoshi is suddenly yanked up to the surface and thrown into a whole mess of reality checks. Why does life have to be so complicated?
(Like many others, I'm terrible at summaries. My apologies.)

Summary
In the past, foster parents either didn’t care where he was, or their random mood swings and explosive attitudes from their own pent-up childhood trauma would keep them from disciplining him properly. Some thought he was a small, broken thing and only viewed him as a flight risk, so they never “laid down the law," which just made it confusing when he messed up. Hitoshi had no idea what it was like to be punished out of love and the best intentions.
And it was terrifying.
Hitoshi Shinsou has always been on his own, so why would he need guidance now?
Or: Aizawa and Shinsou have their first fight, and I'm terrible at summaries.
